France

Paris

September 1, 2008

The great capital of France. Beware of disapproving looks from the toffee nosed Parisian upper class, and be ready to fight through hordes of tourists, who like yourself see nothing more to interest them than the baroque architecture which winks at them for attention in all it’s bronze plated glory.

Rennes

April 8, 2008

Rennes is the capital city of the Brittany region. It really is a beautiful French city, the centre is made up of 14th to 19th century buildings and cobbled streets lined with cafe’s, patisserie’s, formagerie’s and several other ‘erie’s’ it’s like Paris without the busloads of tourists.

Le Neufbourg

December 1, 2007

My parents and sister live in this village in Normandy, Northern France. The village is essentially two roads running parallel, the population can’t be much more than a couple of hundred. The small town of Mortain is nearby.

The French sure do like their crepe’s. These are dotted around everywhere.

A massive advertising mural. I’m sure that raked in the francs.

Medieval buildings in the old quarter of the city. The buildings here aren’t as old as they appear. Apparently they were still being built well into the 17th and 18th centuries, mainly due to the wood available in the surrounding forests.

We went off the beaten track a bit and found ourselves in an little courtyard surrounded by six-floor medieval buildings. The each looked on the verge of collapse. My mum was visibly impressed.

Unbelievably, despite living in the coolest city in the world the Rennes locals were pissed off about something, can’t think what. Me and my mum had to fight through the crowd of rabid anarchists to get to the other side of the road.

What a cool little piscine! I’d love to do a few lengths in there.
